EXIT LADDER DEVICES

NOTE ** The Jomy Safety Ladder is intended for emergency
exit or rescue, or for mechanical equipment access.
Looking like an ordinary drainpipe when closed, a
quarter turn of a handle deploys a 2-foot-wide
industrial strength ladder with slip-resistant
rungs and a safety rail. A Jomy balcony is
available to supplement access to the ladder where
required.

1.4 SUBMITTALS

B. Product Data: Provide manufacturer's standard details
and catalog data demonstrating compliance with referenced
standards. Provide installation instructions.
C. Shop Drawings:
1. Submit drawings showing overall height of ladders,
and location of deployment handles in relation to
floor elevations, window sills, and railings.
NOTE ** Delete the following if not required.
2. Submit drawings illustrating layout and anchorage of
balconies.
D. Warranty: Submit manufacturer's standard warranty.
1.5 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
A. Store products indoors and protect from moisture,
construction traffic, and damage.
1.6 WARRANTY
A. Manufacturer's standard warranty against defects in
materials and workmanship; 10 year period.
PART 2 PRODUCTS
2.1 MANUFACTURER
A. Provide products fabricated by Jomy Safety Products,
Inc.; 1728 16th St.; Suite 201; Boulder, CO 80302;
ASD. Tel: 303-440-9007 (800-255-2591), Fax: 303-440-9091.
2.2 MATERIALS
A. Stiles: Extruded aluminum, 6063-T6 alloy.
B. Rungs: Extruded aluminum, 6005-T5 and 6005-T6 alloy.
C. Brackets: 6063-T6 aluminum alloy.
D. Balcony: 6063-T6 aluminum alloy.
E. Pivot Pins, Springs, Masonry Bolts, Fasteners, and Base
Plates: Stainless steel.
2.3 LADDERS
A. General:
1. Retractable ladder with deployment handles at each
point of access; stainless steel counterbalance
springs; requiring less than five pounds of force to
deploy.
2. Maintenance-free, aluminum and stainless steel
construction.
3. Support 1000 lbs. per rung individually; 200 lbs.
per 6 feet of length simultaneously.
4. Ground support of gravity loads; building wall
support for lateral stability.
5. Provide deployment handle at each access level.
B. Certifications:
1. Exit ladder device: UBC Std. 33-3.
2. Supplementary means of egress: Underwriters
Laboratories Inc.
3. Supplemental escape device: Accepted under BOCA and
ICBO evaluation reports for use up to 30 feet under
appendices of Uniform Building Code and Uniform fire
Code.
4. Mechanical equipment ladder: Accepted under ICBO
evaluation reports in compliance with Uniform
Mechanical Code.
C. Provide dual safety rails at ladders with access from
both sides.
D. Provide reinforcement channel where ladders extend beyond
wall support, such as at parapets and roof tops, or where
ladder spans open areas in excess of 5 feet between
attachment points.
E. Shop fabricate and assemble to maximum extent practicable
for installation on-site with minimal labor.
NOTE ** Delete the following Article if balconies are not
required.
2.4 BALCONIES
NOTE ** Delete 1 of the 2 following paragraphs.
A. Provide aluminum balconies at each access level.
B. Provide aluminum balconies at locations indicated on the
drawings.
NOTE ** Delete 2 of the following 3 paragraphs.
C. Size: 24 x 42 inches, nominal.
D. Size: 38 x 42 inches, nominal.
E. Size: Custom size as indicated on the drawings.
F. 42-inch rail 2 sides, restraining chain 1 side.
G. Capacity: 1000 lbs. per sq. meter.
2.5 ACCESSORIES
A. Provide brackets, spacers, etc., necessary for a complete
installation.
NOTE ** When used for access, the lower handle is removed
and locked off to prevent unauthorized access.
NOTE **
NOTE ** Delete the following paragraph if not required.
B. Provide removable deployment handle at lower access
point; provide locking hub and padlock.
NOTE ** Delete 1 or both of the 2 following paragraphs if
not required. Bolts for securement to masonry are
provided as standard items, specified above under
Materials.
C. Fasteners for securement to wood construction: Stainless
steel lag bolts; 3/8-inch diameter, 4-inch minimum
embedment.
D. Fasteners for securement to steel construction:
Stainless steel bolts, nuts, and washers; 3/8-inch
diameter.
2.6 FINISHES
NOTE ** Delete 1 of the 2 following paragraphs. Shop
painting, below, is special order. Units may be
field painted, if desired.
A. Aluminum: Clear anodized.
B. Manufacturer's standard shop-applied enamel.
1. Color: As selected from manufacturer's standards.
2. Color: Match paint sample supplied by Architect.
PART 3 EXECUTION
3.1 EXAMINATION
A. Verify that wall surfaces to receive units are complete
and approved prior to installing work of this section.
3.2 FOOTING
A. Install concrete footing in accordance with
manufacturer's requirements, and in compliance with
Section 03300.
3.3 INSTALLATION
A. Install components in strict compliance with
manufacturer's instructions.
3.4 ADJUST AND CLEAN
A. Adjust operating parts for smooth deployment and storage.
B. Remove scraps and debris; leave project site in clean
and orderly condition.
C. Instruct the Owner's representative in proper operation.
